IEC 62680‑1‑3:2026 Officially Released (April 22)

Background: Replaces the 2021 edition, aligns with USB‑IF Type‑C 2.4 hardware specification; final compliance closure for the EU’s April 28 mandate of Type‑C for laptops.

Key Mandatory Requirements:

  • 240W cables must use USB‑IF encrypted E‑Marker; non‑E‑Marker cables prohibited

  • Right‑angle plug dimensions standardized: receptacle thickness ≤1.6mm, insertion/removal tolerance ±0.05mm

  • Power‑only Type‑C receptacles must have physical anti‑data‑insertion structure to prevent short circuits

  • Only 16pin (standard) / 24pin (USB4) pins allowed; non‑standard interfaces banned

Mandatory Tests for EU Export: 10,000+ insertions, corrosion resistance, 240W load stability, E‑Marker encryption check, PD 3.2 PPS protocol, protection functions

Effective Date: EU exports require new test reports from May 1; old‑certified products removed from all platforms starting June 1

Impact: Small/medium manufacturers face 15%–20% cost increase; compliant vendors (Lixun, Realtek) gain market share
